“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.” That old TV refrain comes to mind on viewing Anita Boyle’s spectacular Centennial Calendar—each day a year, each week a decade, one month an entire century, plus a year to grow on.
It’s half calendar, half public diary. The only thing missing is you.
There’s plenty of room for your personal memories—a wedding or anniversary, the birth year of a spouse, child, or grandchild, or something else entirely. (One couple chose 1986, the year they came out West to start a new life.) Pick a year—any year—and make your story part of our story.
By the way, it doesn’t have to be your own name; you can honor anyone you please. Just select a donation that feels right for you, write the name on one of our labels, and hand it to the person at the calendar, who will make sure it ends up on the year of your choice.
There are ten rows of decades, each beginning with an Anniversary year ending in “6”. Our Founding Year (1916) and Centennial Year (2016) are $1000. BMC’s Tenth Anniversary (1926) is $100, Twentieth Anniversary $200 and so on. Our Golden Anniversary (1966) is yours for $500; our 60th (1976), marking both the nation’s Bicentennial and the founding of Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, is $600.
You can sign any of the 90 non-anniversary years by simply donating any amount you wish to the Centennial Fund. All donations are tax-deductible.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 through the Centennial Calendar, plus $5000 from business donations, and an additional $5000 from grants, for a total Centennial Fund of $20,000.
