What We Do

“Life would be flat without music!” — Gail Haines

“The BMC encourages the growth and development of music appreciation and performance in the community.”  (Mission statement)

BMC enhances cultural life in the Pacific Northwest with its concert series, and supports the next generation of music makers through its awards program.

BMC daytime concerts, open to the public and free of charge, present local musicians and professional artists, including WWU Music Department faculty and Bellingham Symphony Orchestra members, and also performers based elsewhere in the U.S. or Canada as they tour our region.

BMC supports young musicians by sponsoring awards in various instruments and voice. We grant monetary awards to students who demonstrate talent, perseverance and fine musicianship. Auditions are held to determine winners.

The evening series Night Beat complements the daytime programs. It is eclectic and reaches a new public in a relaxed setting with a ‘no ticket purchase necessary’ policy. Students are always free and all our programs are family friendly.

Our goal is always to make good music accessible to everyone. In both our daytime and evening series, our emphasis is on classical music, though some programs can occasionally explore other genres.

How Can I Get Involved?

You can support BMC endeavors with membership dues (starting at $25 per person). All donations are greatly appreciated.

BMC is run by a team of volunteers. Executive Board meetings will usually be the 3rd Monday of each month at 2pm at First Congregational Church.

You can also help support our mission by volunteering at our events or on committees. Let us know of your interests!
