Awards and Prizes

H. S. String Competition winners at March 2023 matinee program showcase

The BMC encourages young musicians who demonstrate talent, perseverance, and fine musicianship with several awards and prizes.

We know that pursuing excellence in music is hard work, and takes much determination and dedication on the part of students, with support from teachers and parents along the way. Through adjudicated competitions, students are recognized and valued in their music making, and often motivated to pursue a career in music.

BMC holds four separate auditions for high school students of Whatcom County. BMC encourages young musicians by granting awards for each category in the following amounts:  first ($450), second ($350), third ($250), plus a $100 prize.

In addition, BMC is proud to offer an extra formative experience when it invites the top placers to perform at a matinee program. Playing for a friendly and supportive audience plays an essential role in the young musicians’ growth and development; this opportunity is part of BMC’s tradition and legacy.

Please visit the Application Material page for guidelines and forms.
