BMC welcomes WWU professor, cellist John Friesen, with pianist Rebecca Mañalac and Grammy-award-winner Ben Mink (guitar and violin) in a program of works by Bach and Haydn, in addition to shorter, brilliant, encore-style pieces by various composers.
Known for his exciting and passionate performances, Dr. Friesen has appeared in New York, Washington, D.C., Moscow, Montreal and Tokyo. “He plays with obvious enjoyment and commitment, letting Bach speak through his strings.” (Seattle Times). Equally comfortable in popular music, Friesen has collaborated with Ben Mink on k.d. lang’s album “Ingenue,” and Ben Kingsley’s movie “Fifty Dead Men Walking.” He recorded the cello solos in Amy Grant’s “A Song from the Heart.”
On Wednesday morning, May 1, 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran, 119 Texas St. in Bellingham, you will get a one-hour program. As always, the matinees are free and open to the public; they are BMC’s gift to the community and a preview for Night Beat!
BMC Night Beat – offering a full-length program – takes place on Thursday, May 2 at 7:30pm, at First Congregational Church, 2401 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham. Tickets for BMC Night Beat are on sale online, at Village Books and Quist Violins, and at the door. $20/$15. Take a teen for free!
